After finishing a respectable 31st (and hauling in a cool $10,000) in the first Bassmaster Elite Series event of the season, Andy Montgomery is back at it today through Sunday, fishing the Citrus Slam on the St. Johns River in Florida. Practicing on the St. Johns River has been slightly trying, says Andy. Montgomery discusses his practice experience with Pat Robertson on Angler’s Channel, and says, “I have not fished here before, so I have no experience on this place. I pretty much figured this would be a sight fishing tournament, but now all I am seeing is a bunch of buck bass on the beds, not many big females. And the females I have seen were not catchable.”
Andy’s predicting the possibility of a light tournament, unless the full moon pulls bigger females up. BASSMASTER talks more about how Saturday’s pending ‘supermoon’ may effect the Citrus Slam. ESPN also expects this tournament to be a slugout and points out that “no angler ranking higher than fifth after two events has gone on to lead in AOY [Angler of the Year] points after the regular season” — it’ll be interesting to see who’s still hanging in the top five after the second Elite Series tournament of the season.
We’re wishing Andy the best of luck and we’ll support him through thick and thin!
