I completely switched gears over to the Potholes Reservoir to catch walleye, bass, and trout. The weather and the fishing has had it’s ups and downs, but that’s why I head east this time of year. With all the different waterways to fish and different species of fish there is ALWAYS a bite going on somewhere within a 30 minute drive. Also: now booking summer run steelhead and king salmon trips!
The official results are in and UNC Charlotte’s teams placed 3rd, 6th, and 30th in the 2011 B.A.S.S. College East Super Regional.
It’s for sure post spawn out here on the river with 100+ miles of fishable water it takes a lot of effort to try and find big fish and a repeatable pattern. Of the three teams, the best five fish limit that has been caught has been about 10lbs which is good for this river around this time of year.
Even though mother nature may not realize it, the calendar does say May and for me, May is when it really gets fun living here in the NW. Gone are the dark and rainy days of winter. May, for me, represents Spring time, long days, and opportunity on the water. Don’t let this summer pass you by — get out there and enjoy it.
Since I last reported, I have been on the Cowlitz doing serious damage to the Cowlitz River steelhead population. Fishing has been GOOD to say the least. Multiple hook-ups per day, with a bunch of big fish to boot.
