It’s almost August and the fishing is GREAT all over Washington State. The Ocean is kicking out fish … the Columbia river from the mouth all the way to Rufus Woods is giving up chromer fish … and the rivers, lakes and reservoirs are all hitting for bass, walleye, trout, steelhead and even panfish … basically it’s ON like Kong!
This year’s Washington State Governors Cup was held on June 25th & 26th at beautiful Kettle Falls. Team Fetha Styx and 73 other teams were there all vying for this year’s title. This year would prove to be very different …
The second installment of the Washington State Walleye Circuit was held on May 21st and 22nd at beautiful Banks Lake. Team Fetha Styx and 88 other teams were on hand to compete for the title of Banks Lake Champion. This year’s tourney would prove to be extremely competitive as the fish were still spawning in certain areas due to low water temps and a colder than normal spring.
I completely switched gears over to the Potholes Reservoir to catch walleye, bass, and trout. The weather and the fishing has had it’s ups and downs, but that’s why I head east this time of year. Also: now booking summer run steelhead and king salmon trips!

This tournament is the first of five that are held throughout the state. After a long winter and armed with new proto-type Homewater walleye series rods, Jeff and I were extremely excited for the tournament season to get underway.
Even though mother nature may not realize it, the calendar does say May and for me, May is when it really gets fun living here in the NW. Gone are the dark and rainy days of winter. May, for me, represents Spring time, long days, and opportunity on the water. Don’t let this summer pass you by — get out there and enjoy it.
Since I last reported, I have been on the Cowlitz doing serious damage to the Cowlitz River steelhead population. Fishing has been GOOD to say the least. Multiple hook-ups per day, with a bunch of big fish to boot.
Football season has begun (yahoo!), school is starting up again, the weather is just fine and the fish are biting! Bass and walleye action remain strong over east. The topwater fishing for bass has been great of late, with really nice, quality, 2-6 lb., largemouth bass.
August in Washington State rules — if you’re an outdoor enthusiast that is. Pick your poison between fresh and/or salt water, rivers to lakes, sounds to seas, all are productive and opportunities abound. I have been fishing the lakes and …
