While fishing with Fetha Styx pro staff guide Kurt Ferse, John Powell landed a giant halibut off the coast of Noyes Island in SE Alaska this summer while fishing out of Waterfall Resort.
The summer season in Southeast Alaska is nearly upon us and Fetha Styx and Waterfall Resort veteran guide Kurt Ferse are teaming up again to fish the bountiful waters off Prince of Wales Island. After an exceptional 2011 season which saw incredible numbers of Kings from opening day in early June, to closing day in late August, excitement and anticipation for the upcoming season has never been higher.
The 2011 summer season in Southeast Alaska was one for the ages. Since my last update in early July the king fishing stayed red hot and didn’t slow down until the last week of the season. Those lucky enough to make it up to Waterfall Resort this season were truly spoiled with 10+ king days common from June through August.

Excitement for the upcoming summer 2011 season has been building since the announcement in early April by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game that salmon returns are expected to be the biggest in several years. In Southeast Alaska, they have increased the daily limits to three kings for residents, and five per year for non-residents, up from three in 2008 and 2009.
